We Shall Call Him Ballerino

Despite all of daddy's protestations, I think baby Levi has some of mom's dancing genes in him.  Look at this releve (standing on tippy toes for you non-dancers).

I saw him do a perfect arabesque, too, but didn't get a picture.  Couple this with his fascination with So You Think You Can Dance, and I think we have a baby Baryshinikov!

Jenny, We Need You To Develop a Vaccine

Our family has a genetic disorder.  I thought I had beat the odds, but it struck.  We all have a weird predisposition to quilt.

My first quilt!  There are a rash of new babies coming in October through December, and I decided I wanted to make a few baby quilts.

This one didn't come out perfectly.  The rounded edges are a little puckered and some of the squares didn't line up quite right.  But I still dang proud.  I doubt I'll ever acheive the prowess and Niki and Krystle, but I still knocked out a cute one.

Lexi, you're next.  There's no use in denying it.

Perfect 10

Baby Levi turned 10 months old this week!  It's been an eventful month!  He finally learned to crawl.  He also learned to walk while holding on.  He can do all kinds of new tricks, like turning the light switch on and off, holding the keys to the door when we come home, and my personal fave, throwing his hands in the air for "All done."  We're closing in on his first birthday in a hurry!  The next few months will be filled with birthday parties for all his buddies.  Can't we please slow down time a little, so I can keep my baby for a little longer??

A Family of Four

We have a new addition to the Baker fam.  Meet Gaga!

Gaga is  our new lionfish.  Levi spent about four hours out in the ocean today collecting saltwater, sand, rocks, and best of all, our little buddy.

It's legal to capture tropical fish for a personal aquarium.  Plus, lionfish are an invasive species in Florida.  They eat up the native fish and have very few predators, so divers are always asked to kill any they see.  Levi, Bryan, and some buddies went on a lionfish derby in Key West a few years ago.  So we don't feel bad catching them for our aquarium, even if we accidentally kill him with our inexperience.  Levi would have speared him otherwise.

I named him Gaga so that maybe baby Levi could learn his name.  Also, he's got a Lady Gaga-esque outfit on.

I think baby Levi's going to like the new aquarium.  Daddy Levi spent the evening staring at it like he was watching a basketball game.  :)

Welcome Gaga!

His First Words Are Going To Be "Leave Me Alone, Mom"

Baby Levi is sooo smart!!  We taught him how to do "All done" when he's finished eating.  It's so stinkin' cute.

The funny thing is that when he's in a bad mood, he starts doing it like three bites into his meal.  It's like, "I'm done with this already.  Get out of my face."

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Nowadays, not only can baby Levi walk while holding on to the couch or table, he can also walk while clinging to the walls.  So he can get just about anywhere!  He's slow about it though, so thankfully I'm not chasing after him all day.  I can't remember who said it first, but someone called him Spider-Man for the way he hangs on the wall.

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day!  Today we celebrated with a lot of food.  We started with a candy-gram for Daddycakes...

...and later for dinner, made homemade country-fried steaks!

Yum.  Delicious.

Daddy Levi got a saltwater aquarium for his gift, and plans on filling it with tropical fish he captures in our ocean.  He also got a tie, of course.

I always knew Levi would be a great dad, but I'm still amazed each and every day and how wonderful of a father he really is.  Baby Levi loves him so much, and he would do absolutely anything for that baby.  He changes dirty diapers, gets up at 5am with him, worries about him when he seems feverish, he really is the world's greatest dad!

Speaking of great dads, I have a few more who deserve a good shout-out today.

My own Daddio!  One of the smartest guys I know.  The more I see of the world, the more amazed I am at all he has taught me.  And as time goes on, our relationship just gets closer and closer.  I love you, Dad!

Also...
Grandpa!  It's been awhile since I've seen him, and I miss him.  I love his kind heart, and his funny sayings that I find myself repeating over and over again.

They say a good man is hard to find, so I am so blessed to have so many absolutely wonderful men in my life.  Let's celebrate all those great guys today!

I Don't Wanna Grow Up

Today there was a Father's Day chili cook-off/carnival set up downtown by our house.  We got free tickets in the mail, so we ignored the drunk lady on the sidewalk telling us not to go because the beers were overpriced, and decided to check it out.

We tried out the climbing wall...

...but neither of us could reach the top.  I think we're getting old.

Levi was very successful at the basketball and football games at least...

...and I was very successful at the bouncy slide.

Poor baby Levi had to sit and watch us have most of the fun.
He didn't seem to mind.  Fun day for the Baker fam!

Buck Wild

It's so funny to see baby Levi play with his daddy.  They like to be wild boys.  Today, baby Levi started diving headfirst off the couch onto daddy.  He's fearless!

It's Raining, It's Pouring, the Old Man Is Snoring

Well, rainy season has certainly descended on Florida. We plan on some showers just about every day, but some days get really wild.  Today actually looks nice, but last week was not so nice.
You wouldn't know it from this picture, but there's a sidewalk on this street!  Now it just looks like a canal.  Days like this I'm glad to be driving the Jeep.  The funny thing is this picture was taken on the way home from the beach.  The rain sets in so quickly it will be perfect and sunny one minute and pouring rain the next.

We've started planning an indoor activity every day that we plan an outdoor one, because there's a good chance we'll need the backup.  :)

Girl's Camp

Baby Levi and I went to Girl's Camp on Monday!  And he was certainly the most popular kid in town.  The girls went bananas for him.

Baby Levi and I didn't stay overnight, but we spent the day with the girls.  He was such an angel!  He enjoyed every minute there.  I was surprised, because it was really hot and there were gnats buzzing around our heads all day.  But he didn't mind at all; he was smiling and laughing and taking everything in.

The girls had fun, too.  They did games, archery, a flag ceremony, and when baby Levi and I left they were heading over for dinner.

While the girls played games in the lodge, baby Levi poured water on the table then crawled around in it.  That's one way to stay cool!

We had fun, but I'm really glad we didn't have to spend the night.  It was seriously hot.  We're going out for the day again on Thursday.  Baby Levi can't wait!

Called To Serve

I was released as Young Women's President today!  It's such a strange feeling.  It really hasn't sunk in yet (mostly because I'm still going to Girl's Camp for a few days next week).  I've been in the calling about 4 1/2 years!  I can't believe it's been that long.
Play in a Day -- our play was "Sponge Bob Saves the Titanic."

 Bowling
 BBQ and pool party

 Clowning

Carving pumpkins

Facepainting

My new calling is a family history consultant, focusing on indexing.  It should be fun.  But I'm going to MISS my girls.  It's been such a ride.  Even when they made me crazy, I loved each one of them so much.  I'm going to miss hearing their "Good News Moments "every Sunday, their experiences sharing the gospel with friends, and their tough moments when they've had to stand for righteousness alone.

Levi was called into the Bishopric!  That is going to be an adventure.  I mean that sincerely, too, not sarcastically.  I think it's going to be amazing.  His High Priest ordination blessing and his setting apart were really special blessings.  I know the Lord is going to watch over us and take care of us.  And I know Levi is going to grow so much in this service.

I'm meeting with the new Young Women's President on Tuesday.  She is so nervous!!  I know she's going to be fantastic, though, and the girls are going to adore her.  But I remember how overwhelming the calling seemed.  I never felt like I had really "mastered" the calling, but boy did I enjoy it.  :)

Magic House Elves

Look where I got myself!

Now how do I find those beautiful, magical people from TV??

Sew What

Baby Levi was an angel baby today, totally content to play by himself in the living room all morning.  So I got brave and decided to work on a quilt I've been (slowly) sewing.  Baby Levi crawled his little bum over and wanted to help.
I did manage to get a good chunk done, mostly while he was napping.

Baby was in such a cute mood I took some shots of him showing off his little teeth, his chunky cheeks, and his brown eyes.

Happy Flagler Day

There's a beautiful museum right across the water from us called the Flagler Museum.  Baby Levi and I went for the first time today with some friends.  It was Founder's Day, so it was free!  That was a great incentive to go somewhere I've been meaning to go.
The Flagler Museum was once the home of Henry Flagler, who was a founder of Standard Oil.  Flagler developed most of the Florida coast, and ran the railroad straight through Florida in order to entice people here.  The museum is his home restored.

It was beautiful.  It felt like it was plucked right from an Edith Wharton novel, or maybe Downton Abbey.  I could imagine all my favorite Gilded Age characters visiting in the drawing room, or dancing in the ballroom.
All the ceilings were painted like this.  Incredible.

It's hard to believe this is directly across the intercoastal from where I live!
There's our house!

They also have a restored railcar on the property that you can walk through.  I think it was actually Flagler's private railcar.

The mamas.

They didn't allow strollers at the museum, so we all were mama kangaroos with our babies in their packs.  Just about everyone has an Ergo carrier, too, so soon-to-be-moms, take note!
Self portrait.  I think this face he makes is so funny.

Baby Levi got a souvenir at the gift shop -- a little train that runs on a track through Florida Flagler sites.
