Levi, the Beaver Boy

As I have posted about before, baby Levi chews on everything.  And I do mean everything.  Just look at the condition of his crib.

Yes, those are teeth marks.  Mind you, this was a beautiful brand new crib.  That is why you don't buy expensive stuff for babies!!  Luckily, the crib was beautiful but not expensive.  And hopefully non-toxic.

You're Not The Boss Of Me

Baby Levi is a toddler now, which means he has begun to assert his independence from Mom.  I have been waiting and waiting for the day when he would be able to feed himself.  Unfortunately, that day has not yet arrived.
Instead of trying to pick up finger food (which he consistently refuses to do unless it is Cheerios), baby Levi decided to try to eat straight from the baby food jar.  On his own.  With no spoon.  Hilarity ensues.
Trying to stick his little fingers down in there.

Nope, this works much better!

Happy boy!

What's The Number For 911?

Sooo, I had several blog posts in mind for today, including one about how awesome my mom is (happy birthday!!).

But instead I tried to burn down my kitchen, and then decided that warranted its own blog post.
Yes, I set my kitchen on fire and the cute firemen of West Palm Beach had to come save my apartment.
What happened was the baby was napping so I threw some chicken in a pot of water to boil (I was going to shred it later for dinner).  Then baby woke up kind of cranky, so I packed him in the stroller for a walk to the library.  Leaving the chicken boiling on the stove.  Oops.
We were gone for close to an hour and a half.  When I got back, my neighbors were talking to Joe from maintenance at the front desk of the building.  And when they saw me, they said, "There's smoke coming from your apartment and the smoke detector has been going for a really long time!"  And immediately I knew why.
So baby Levi and I, Joe, and the neighbors ran upstairs (not literally; we took the elevator).  Joe cracked the door to the apartment and it was filled with smoke.  He slammed the door shut again and made us all go downstairs.  Then he called 911.
The fire department literally ran upstairs, and got everything squared away.  Sadly, the chicken looked like a tiny piece of charcoal in a black pot.  But other than that, no damage!!  No fire damage, no smoke damage, just a really bad smell.  And the fire department checked the carbon monoxide levels in the apartment and said it was absolutely safe.  Also, the sprinklers didn't go off and flood the apartment, either, which was another huge plus.  We were incredibly blessed.  Guardian angels were watching over my chicken or something.  And I am very, very grateful.
Although, it still does really stink in here.  Levi says it smells like burnt dog.  We have all our doors and windows open, and so does our neighbor.  It's pretty funny, because we can look into each other's apartments.  It's kind of like having new roommates.
Levi is scrubbing down the apartment because he doesn't think he can sleep with the smell.  Baby's snoozing, though, so I don't think he minds it too much.
Sorry  hun!!  At least we got to go out for dinner instead of eating chicken.  Maybe that was my sinister plan all along.

He's Learning to Exact Payback

Baby Levi learned to blow raspberries on my belly.  It's so stinkin' cute.
Sorry you had to see my belly in that vid.

Beef. It's What's For Dessert.

We went to dinner at a friend's house tonight.  I made dessert.
Sliders make the perfect end to a meal.

Haha, they're cupcakes!  A yellow cupcake cut in half, with a brownie for the patty and colored frosting for the cheese and lettuce.
I took a few bites of this one before thinking to take a picture.  They were yum.

New Kicks

After searching and searching (and whining and complaining), we found baby Levi some awesome shoes!  And they didn't break the bank.  Yay for Slickdeals (and for a husband who diligently monitors Slickdeals).

How cute is this little guy?  He had some of these Pumas when he was a baby.  Lexi and Ale bought the baby ones for him because Lexi thought they were BYU shoes.

I'm crazy about these shoes.  The only issue is that the ones on sale were these red ones, and he doesn't own a lot of red clothing.  We'll have to get creative (and bold) with color combos I guess.

There's nothing I like better than fabulous shoes.  Well, except this adorable little guy.

Oatmeal Foot Massage Maybe?

Mealtime can be quite a battle with baby Levi nowadays, so I keep a whole arsenal of toys within grabbing distance.
Tonight, I had a spoonful of food when a toy came flying my way (Levi has been learning a lot about gravity lately).  When I looked down, the food was no longer on the spoon.  But it took some searching to find it!  Baby Levi had a huge glop of oatmeal right on his foot.  And my first thought was, "A lot easier to clean off a foot than the tile.  Whew."  Of course, many more glops made their way to the tile ... and the wall ... you get the picture.  My oh my.

Good Morning, Merry Sunshine!

Bedhead and toothbrushing.  Good morning, baby Levi!
PS -- Looks like he has an old man combover, doesn't it?

Now I Lay Him Down To Sleep

I love watching this baby sleep.  Luckily, it's not creepy if you're the mom.
His naps are in a weird in-between stage right now.  He's getting ready to go from two naps a day to one, but he's not quite there yet.  If he takes two naps, his second nap is so late in the day that his bedtime gets pushed to 8:30 or 9:00.  I like having my relax time after he goes to bed, so earlier bedtime is a big plus for me.
He doesn't wake up in the middle of the night at all any more, except when we're on vacation.  That was a big (and hard-won) step!

Rollin' in the BSH

We made it!  We're finally in!

Baby Story Hour, of course!  Or, as Levi Sr. calls it, the BSH.
Longtime readers will recall we previously got booted out of the BSH because baby Levi was not old enough yet ("It's designed developmentally for 12 months and older.")  But we're back!  And it's awesome.
My little shy guy did need some time to warm up, but by the time the books were put away and the toys rolled out, he was grooving.
Next month another baby story hour starts up at the fancy-schmancy Society of the Four Arts, so we'll be up to our ears in awesome story hours.  Love it.

Chubby Little Cubby All Stuffed With Fluffies

Baby Levi has two buddies who he loooves to hang out with --Winnie-the-Pooh and Bun-Bun!
Many a morning we'll hear him talking away in his room.  We'll walk in, and he'll be sitting in his crib, playing with his buddies, happy as can be.

But even more than his buddies, he loves the camera!  So of course, when he saw me taking that picture, he wanted to grab it.  Silly boy.

Let's Do Some Shoe Shopping!

Since baby Levi is walking now (well, sort of ... almost), it's about time for some shoes!  Except...
...he does NOT agree.  I got him these on super sale at Babies R Us, but he yanks or kicks them off any chance he gets.

I'm now on the lookout for some soft-sole, velcro, and still CUTE little boy shoes.  Oh yeah, in size HUGE.  :)

Brainy Baby

Baby Levi is the perfect age for the book Pat the Bunny!

He can hold the book and turn the pages himself, and he love to touch, poke, and prod everything.  It's my absolute favorite thing to turn around and see him "reading" a book.  Today I left a book in the corner of his crib so that when he wakes up he can look through it.  Future bookworm, just like his mama!

Beach Bums

Yesterday we made it a beach day.  We went to a beach we don't usually frequent.  There's a rocky area where the waves crash up and create cool tidal pools.  The baby loved it.

It was hard to take good pictures because I couldn't see the screen on the camera at all.  Also, it was in the waterproof case, which makes it really hard to push the buttons.  I guess we have enough beach pictures as it is, though.
We all were exhausted after the beach.
After showers and naps, we went to a hibatchi place for dinner.  Baby Levi loved watching the chef!  And I even managed to get him to down a few pieces of chicken.  Fun and successful dinner.
Yay for fun weekends.  :)

No More Gummy Grin

Baby Levi has a mouth full of teeth now.  Four on top and four on bottom!  And from all the whining and drooling today, I'm guessing there are more on the way soon.
Strangely enough, he still insists on pureed food.  He spits out bites of anything that isn't totally mashed.  Except Cheerios, of course.  He's already a picky eater, and he's barely started toddlerhood.  *Sigh*.

Goodnight Moon, Goodnight Motion Sickness, Goodnight Beachball

This is Levi's idea of saying goodnight to the baby.

Not as relaxing as a bath and Goodnight Moon, but whatever.  ;)

Back in the Saddle Again

We're back!  Not only are we back in town from our last-minute Utah trip, but we are also back to our normal lives.  After Sherrie and Preston's visit, baby's birthday, tropical storm, and then trip out of town, it's been about three weeks of out-of-the-norm.  Fun!  But a little bit tiring.
The funeral/grave dedication was lovely.  It was great to see all the extended family on Levi's side of the family.
Levi's immediate family

It was great to spend time with the family.  And so glad we got to know beautiful Courtney!  She and Josh are getting married next month.
We hit the pool, did a drive/rainshower-walk up the canyon, went to the temple, ate Cafe Rio and Sconecutter (of course!), but mostly just spent quality time with the family.  And my mom happened to be in town for her high school reunion, so we got to see her and Ray too!  What a lucky rabbit's foot!
Baby Levi *loves* spending time with his cousins Mylie and Brynlee.  Mylie is a little mama to him, loves to hold him, and even cleans up after he smashes blueberries and throws them all over the floor!

Mylie tries to hold the wild bear on her lap.

Bryn liked to play with baby Levi, but didn't always get that he didn't play like she did.  He pushed and poked her in the eye more than once, poor thing.

Swinging with Grandma and Brynlee

The trip turned out really well.  The only bad thing was remembering what a bummer it is to live so far away from everyone!  Why doesn't everyone move to Florida?  I think that's the perfect solution.  :)
