Beach Bums

We're back from our epic travels!  And I have been avoiding the blog because it seems a little daunting to cover everything.  But the show must go on!  So I'll just try a little at a time and see how I do.  I don't have all our pictures downloaded onto the computer, either, so I'm not going to go in chronological order.
I'll start with San Carlos, since I do have all those pictures.
Five years ago, almost exactly, Levi and I got married on this very beach.  Now we got to bring baby Levi for the first time.  And he loved it as much as we did.
For those unfamiliar with the teeny tiny town of San Carlos, it's a beach town in Mexico on the Sea of Cortez.  My family has been going there since I was a baby.  My dad and stepmom rent a condo on the beach every year for the entire month of October.  It's a gorgeous, relaxing place to go and it has a lot of memories for me.  This year we got to spend the week with Dad and Donna, as well as my sister Niki, her husband Bryan, and my neice Piper.

The weather was amazing.  The water felt like a bathtub.  I'm such a baby about cold water, so it was awesome to jump right into the ocean without doing the in-and-out, slowly-wade-in dance.

Piper and Bryan

We mostly just beach bummed around, but we did squeeze in some adventuring too (do you like how I create my own verbs?).  Bryan, Levi (original), and I took a scuba trip out to San Pedro island and dove with the sea lions out there.  It was so so cool.  The sea lions were very curious and playful and  swam all around us.
Niki was a champ and stayed home with the babies, so we tried not to make it sound too cool.  But honestly, it was too cool.
There is a pod of dolphins that live right by the beach we stayed at.  They swim back and forth throughout the day, and it's so neat to watch them.  Levi made it his mission to swim with them, so the last day we were there he and Bryan sat out with the kayak on alert until they saw them.  Then they paddled out, tipped over, and swam with two dolphins who swam around and under them before taking off again.

Apparently I'm going to have to attach that video to a later post.  Technical difficulties.  Sorry.
Levi and Bryan on the kayak.
We also sailed a bit.  Baby Levi did okay for a little while, and then started to scream.  I don't know if it was the sailing, the lifejacket, or just a temper tantrum.  I choose to believe the third.
He doesn't look too thrilled, does he?
Other than that, we spent a lot of time on the beach!
Literally, a beach bum.

Niki getting dunked against her will!

We attempted a family jump picture, but didn't get a great one.

Behind the baby is my dad's sailboat and the condos we stayed in.

We of course had to get Mexican "candy" (I put candy in quotation marks because apparently those who did not grow up in Nogales do not consider chili powder candy).  Piper takes after her mother; she loved it!

The boys were brave and tried some of the chili, but ended up sticking to the marshmallow and carmel lollipops.  Why waste the good stuff on people who don't appreciate it?

All in all, it was a great trip.  The beach was wonderful, but the best part was spending time with the family.

Can't wait to do it again!
