I took a(nother) page out of Niki's book, and made a video of baby Levi saying some of his favorite words! And by favorite, I mean the ones most easy to catch on video. There are two takes spliced together to get you the full experience.
He's no Piper, but baby boys speak later and slower than baby girls. It's so cute to see him learn. He's not very interested in repeating what you say to him, but he'll say the word when he sees the object.
Baby Levi started his first swim lessons this week!
And yes, he was required to wear that swim cap.
We're in a mommy-and-me swim class that teaches him to float on his back, go underwater, and do a little bit of arm paddling.
I didn't have very high expectations for our first class, but he did great! No crying at all. He didn't learn all the techniques in that first class (especially floating on his back), but I'm confident he'll get there.
Trying to flip back onto his belly.
Hanging on to mama's face.
There were supposed to be three other babies in the class with us, but none of them showed up. We got a little private tutoring!
Working with our instructor and his creepy doll baby.
The last five minutes of class is play time. One of baby Levi's favorite words right now is "ball," so he got a whole pool full of balls to play with.
What a fun long weekend we had! Extra long, in fact. Friday, Levi took off work and we joined our stake for a temple trip to Orlando. On Saturday our friends Jenny and Tom (and baby Brooke!) flew in from DC to stay until Tuesday.
We were supposed to have fun in the sun, but unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. So we had fun in the clouds instead.
Jenny, baby Brooke, and baby Levi
We did two short scuba dives, took advantage of the Marriott's awesome amenities, swam in the pool, and just enjoyed each other's company.
Baby Brooke got to show off her little white arms and legs for the first time, rocked pink shades and rashguard, and had her first adventure swimming, which included getting dunked underwater!
The splash pad scared him a little. He didn't like getting sprayed in the face.
Getting ready to catch baby Brooke.
He was so gentle with her.
Baby Levi went swimming too, warmed up in the hot tub, ran around the splash pad, and played on the playground. He also fell in love with little Brooke. We're already negotiating the dowry for their future marriage.
Rocking Brooke to sleep (or awake).
She was so teeny she didn't even fit in her jammies.
Baby Levi also got to play ping-pong doubles with Dad and Tom.
We had such a great time with our friends! Next we're gearing up to meet them in Paris for "Babies Take Over Europe 2013." I don't know if the EU can handle this much cuteness.
On Friday, the Young Women in our ward held a free babysitting night. It was too good an offer to pass up.
Can you believe he is 16 months old and this is the first time he's been babysat by someone who isn't a blood relative?
It took a little cajoling to get Levi to agree. He is a very protective papa bear. The Young Women's President made a special plea to him, because there were no other kids signed up!
Baby Levi had a great time. There were about four other kids who did end up coming, and he loved running around with them. I don't even think he noticed that we were gone. And the YW adored him! This was one of the girl's Facebook status on Friday night:
had so much fun last night baby sitting :) i love baby levi ♥ he is growing up too fast. i still remember when he was born :')
I read recently that at this age toddlers start to learn that they are separate people from their parents. I can believe that, because baby Levi is spending a lot more time looking at himself in the mirror lately.
He makes funny faces at himself and cracks up, he pats his belly, he finger-combs his hair. It's really fun to watch.
