Happy Day

Thanksgiving this year was just the way it was meant to be. Family, food, naps, and football. The food was *amazing*. Mom (meaning my mom) didn't even have to do all the cooking; she was more of a cook supervisor this year! Lexi and Ale made a delicious turkey and stuffing. And of course, we had four kinds of pie! Two thumbs way up for Thanksgiving this year.

And PS, we're dog-sitting for our friends; that explains the sleeping spaniel :).

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Thanksgiving

The house is clean, the decorations are up, and Grams and Ray are on the road to our house. Thanksgiving is almost here! We're going to do some cooking this afternoon, and my mouth is already watering.

We made Levi J his first handprint turkeys today. He had a great time. He had such a great time that he ended up covered in paint and had to take his second bath of the day. It was worth it though. Can't wait for him to wear his turkey shirt!

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

Today for Family Home Evening we had to run to the mall to use a Groupon that expires this week. Christmas was in the air! The Christmas tree was lit, the train was running, and we were there just in time to see the snow! Well, maybe not snow exactly. But soap bubbles that look an awful lot like snow to South Florida eyes.

Levi J is going to love Christmas this year, I can already tell. He carried around the present we bought all night (not even a present for him, mind you) and even insisted on sleeping with it. He of course was mega pelican excited about the train and got to ring the bell on it. And he loved the "snow." I wish you could see the bubbles in the picture; they look so much like real snow. If you look in the top left of the photo you can kind of see them.

Yes, I know it's not Thanksgiving yet, Scrooge, but what's the harm in getting into the Christmas spirit a little early? It's going to be a fun month!

Just Call Me Twinkle Toes

Can I brag for a minute? Is that okay?

I kind of feel like superwoman today! I got so much done! I did the dishes, the laundry (well, one load at least), made dinner, got my child down for an early nap, AND I taught three dance classes today. And now I'm exhausted and eating a candy bar.

I've been substitute teaching dance for about a year now. I have two friends who teach ballet, tap, and creative movement to two through six year olds. I've been teaching for them a lot this month, which has been really cool.  The class is very basic. It's a few easy ballet steps and a lot of fun get-the-wiggles-out dances, like the freeze dance and animal action.

Today I got to teach one class at the children's museum that some of our friends frequent. And one of our friends was in the class! She was so excited that I was her teacher; she kept hugging my legs. And her mom took a bunch of pictures, which was cool.

You can see Levi J in some of the pictures sitting in the corner playing on his kindle. He was an angel, thankfully, because the museum director and the activities director were both watching the whole class.

I'm teaching FOUR classes tomorrow. I might need more than one candy bar by the end of the day tomorrow.

Meat Your Heart Out

Yesterday we had a fun family date to Pampas Grill, a Brazilian rodizio restaurant. We got a great Groupon deal that included specialty drinks, dessert, and of course all the meat we could handle. YUM! I even ate a mussel (why anyone thinks they are delicious is beyond me).

Afterwards we did a little shopping, got caught in the rain, and went home for naps and movies.

Tickling the Ivory

I love downtown West Palm Beach. I think it is one of the best downtowns in the country. Quiet and walkable but lots to do, right on the water, great food, kid friendly, green space, tons of fun events, I'm totally in love with this city.

Right now they have an exhibit called Keys of the City. They have pianos set up all around that anyone can play. It is so fun! The piano close to us is an Alice in Wonderland piano, with little hidden doors all over. Needless to say, Levi J was entranced with it. He already is crazy for pianos and always wants to make a run for the chapel piano during sacrament meeting. Add that to colorful paintings and little doors to find; he did not want to leave.

He <3s Red Tape

We had to go to the courthouse to pay a parking ticket today. I sat down at the window and told the clerk why I was there, then Levi J sat at the next window and said, "Bubby ticket 5" (he calls himself bubby or bubba, and he was at window number 5). I asked him, "Where's your money?" and he said, "Pocket" and reached into his pocket. The clerk was cracking up. I handed Levi J a penny and he paid it to his clerk for "Bubby ticket." Hilarious, just hilarious.

Bear Cakes and Snow Dip

Levi J goes through periods of time when he is incredibly picky about his food and will hardly eat anything. We're at the tail end of one of those periods. What has got us through this round is pancakes and syrup. I got an awesome pancake mix that is whole wheat flour and whole oat floor and tastes great. It has a big bear on the box, so Levi J started calling pancakes "bear cakes." And because the syrup bottle has a snow-covered cabin on it, he calls syrup "snow dip" (it took me awhile to figure that one out, ha). So the whole family had been chowing down on a lot of bear cakes and snow dip lately. Whatever works.

In that last picture it's hard to see but Levi J is actually hugging the syrup bottle.

Botani-fun Gardens

Today we met up with friends at the local botanical garden for a story hour there. It was a great place for the kids to run around in the fresh air (and run run run they did). The story hour was fine, but the supervisor from the botanical garden was clearly not accustomed to toddlers; she kept shushing them and telling them to sit down, which was frustrating to her and puzzling to the toddlers.

But the gardens were very nice, and the kids were thrilled that it was right across the street from the airport so giant planes flew overhead every few minutes. We saw the coolest caterpillars there that on first glance looked like props. They were real, though, and someone told us they turn into giant moths.

It seems like there are a limitless number of fun places to take a toddler. I can't believe I've been a stay-at-home-mom for almost two years and I'm still discovering places like this close to home. And, of course, I am always so grateful to have great friends to share it with.

Layover Laughs

John and Sharie, Levi's brother and sister-in-law, took a trip to Belize this week with a layover in Miami. We love having visitors, even short-term airport-only ones! Levi J. was, of course, shy, but Uncle Jonny knows how to warm him up quickly. Good times were had by all!

Wardrobe Malfunction

He put his Lightening McQueen sticker right there and them said, "Mommy, booby!" Holy cow, who taught him that word?! Also, hilarious.

Poor little Levi got a virus in his mouth. He has sores all over his gums and around his mouth. It's not foot-and-mouth disease (or whatever that's called), but it's similar. He also has an ear infection.

That equals a whole lotta not-eating for my already picky eater. Poor guy. He just keeps saying "teeth hurt!" Hopefully it will clear up in a few days.

Toddler Tantrum Time

Church yesterday was a little rough on the nursery. The kids were used to getting out of church at two (which is a little late for most naptimes), but with daylight savings nonsense it felt like three to them. I went in the last hour to help, and the kids were cuckoo. Levi J just sat on the floor, started to cry, then looked at me and said, "Go? Nap?" So we did.

Got home and checked my moms group Facebook page, and everyone was posting about grumpy toddlers. Anytime the world does not revolve around them, there is trouble. :)

Levi's yearly office party is a big fall carnival. It's always a lot of fun: great food, music, carnival games, balloon animals, face painting, jumping castles, etc etc. This year the big attraction was a zip line. I did it, but no pictures so you'll have to take my word for it.
