We got an impromptu tour of the local fire truck today! We were walking by the station on our way to the park and they invited us aboard. Levi J got to drive the truck and got a mini helmet, and I got to hold the giant axe! I'm glad they're so close by and so friendly, in case we ever need saving.

Hi all! I haven't been blogging much (or doing anything else much) because I've been dancing my bum off! I've been teaching 10 dance classes a week for a friend, who is now too pregnant to teach her classes.
It has been really fun. But, as Jenny reminded me, I went from exercising zero hours a week to exercising ten hours a week. And I'm exhausted.
I was only supposed to teach for three weeks in January, but it looks like I'm going to be teaching a little longer. Lisa is trying to find another teacher but so far no luck. I'll keep you posted.

Papa is in town! He's on his way home from Argentina and Uruguay and was able to get a free stopover in Miami for the weekend. Yay!
Yesterday we went to a sea turtle rescue and saw loggerhead, green, and Olive Ridley turtles that were being rehabilitated. The Olive Ridley turtle is very very rare to find in the United States; it's usually seen in South America. I think they said only about four Olive Ridley turtles had ever come ashore in Florida ever. It just looked like a regular turtle to our inexpert eyes, though.
After the turtle sanctuary, we headed to the beach. Strangely, on the path to the beach we saw two wild tortoises just hanging out. I noticed them first, and literally thought they were statutes. They weren't afraid of us at all; we were able to even touch them (though we probably shouldn't have).
It wasn't a great beach day. The weather was warm but it was crazy windy and the sand kept blowing in our faces. Afterwards we got some delicious barbeque and went home to relax.
Yesterday evening we went downtown for ice cream and a walk along the waterfront. We enjoyed all the sailboats and yachts in the intercoastal, and talked about our plans for another BVI sailing trip next year!
We love our Papa!

Levi J used to love to brush his teeth. Now he hides under the quilt when it's tooth brushing time. I hope he doesn't have cavities; it's pretty dang hard to pry his mouth open. When left to his own devices he'll suck the toothpaste off the brush and leave it at that.

We've had some houseguests over the past few weeks that have made Levi J an extra-happy guy.
The first was Sadie the dog. I think I wrote before that our little boy just adores that dog. The second were the Wrights, our friends from Tallahassee. They have a little boy one year old who is quite mischievous for his age. Levi J loved teaching him how to do big boy things like climbing on the furniture, sliding down the slide, and running in the yard. Boys will be boys.
The house is back to just the Bakers now...at least until next weekend when Papa visits!

Today we went to a carnival in Boca Raton, which is where Levi works. Since this week has been really slow, he took a long lunch and met us there! I wasn't expecting much, and was pleasantly surprised. Levi J got to do a lot of carnie rides that are fun for little kids (and, let's be honest, only fun to little kids). He and his buddies all piled into a classic Ford Mustang ride, which made for an adorable picture. Levi J also got to climb inside a real firetruck and meet a real fireman, and before we left the entire fam braved a good old fashioned fun house.

Happy New Year!
We had a fun New Year's Eve with friends. Lots of fireworks, lots of food, lots of fun. And we stayed up past midnight, even Levi J! I haven't stayed up until midnight on New Year's Eve since before he was born. I wasn't intending on keeping Levi J up this year; we took a pack-and-play to the party and tried to put him to bed around 10 pm, but he absolutely refused. He slept in a little this morning and took a three hour nap, so he mostly made up for it. It's nice that he's at an age now where he's much more adaptable. Though I'm not planning on keeping him up that late again anytime soon. He was a tired guy today.
I actually have a few New Year's resolutions this year! I usually don't make any. My first is to make sure Levi J gets an hour of outdoor play every day. I think it will help us stay active.
My other resolution is actually a series of weekly "real food" goals. This first week the goal is to eat two different fruits or veggies with every meal. There are also weeks where the goal is to eat only whole grains (no refined white flour) or to eat no refined sugar (tough week I think!). There aren't enough goals for a whole year, but if it goes well I could always start over again once I've done all the goals. Here's the link if you're interested: http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/100-days-of-mini-pledges/
Here's to a great 2014! It's going to be a fantastic year.
